If you expressed interested in running for public office, the deadlines for the April Election is as follows:

December 1, 2016 1st day for candidates to circulate nomination papers (Nomination papers for city offices are available in the City Clerk's Office, while nomination papers for school district positions are available at the school district office - 501 South Bird Street)
December 23, 2016 Incumbents not seeking re-election file Notification of Non-Candidacy with election clerk
January 3, 2017 Nomination papers are due in the Election Clerk's Office
February 21, 2017 Spring Primary Election - To be determined
April 4, 2017 Spring Election
April 18, 2017 City elected officials take Oath of Office
