Sewer Bill Questions

Funding Usage
Sewer charges are billed monthly and are based on the amount of water you use. The fees collected are used to fund the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and sanitary sewer collection system.

Fees are also used to fund equipment replacement, debt retirement, and capital projects associated with the treatment plant and collection system.

Rate Increase
As part of the 2013 wastewater budget, a 10% rate increase was approved by the City Council. This increase will help to fund repairs of the sanitary sewer system over the next 10 years. The repairs will focus on sewers that have been in service anywhere from 50 to 90 years.

Minimum Monthly Charge

Effective July 1, 2013, residential customers will pay a minimum monthly charge of $8.83 plus a volume charge of $2.74 per 100 cubic feet of water used. What this means for the average residential customer using 700 cubic feet (5,236 gallons) of water per month is an increase of $2.55 in their monthly sewer charge. While the volume charge remains the same for all customers, the minimum monthly charges vary depending upon the water meter size. For industrial customers generating a high strength wastewater, a special charge is calculated and added to their sewer bill. The minimum monthly charges based on meter size are as follows:
